We tossed the idea of reading this book at the beginning of the school year and the students were really excited about reading it. Due to distance learning, my AP students were really shortchanged on novel reading, especially American Literature. The American Dream, and it's evolution since immigrants stood on the bow of a ship, viewed the Statue of Liberty, became more than just a desire, want, or goal. "The Great Gatsby," offers a viewpoint of the American Dream that many students don't get the chance to investigate. Reading this novel, as well as other paired pieces, will give my advanced readers an opportunity to explore college level reading strategies and writing analysis. I am excited for this opportunity to take them on this journey!
