Age appropriate pretend play, cooperative games and SEL books/stories provide students with opportunities to explore intense emotions through their language - PLAY! Children love stories and love to be read to - therefore character education and other SEL books help to explore, teach and normalize intense emotions that we all experience, but provide age appropriate examples of how to handle them in a healthy and effective way, providing them with important life skills that they will take with them beyond the classroom. Students get to practice cooperative learning, reciprocal game play, problem solving, etc all in the safety of the counseling office.
