Students from Kimmons Middle School have volunteered to start a Community Garden on the school grounds. They want to plant foods reflective of their diverse cultures, Hispanic, Asian, African American, and European American. This will build community at school among the diverse populations and create teamwork. They want to learn about growing the foods and what is needed to be successful. They will read articles and information to learn what they need to in order to grow the crops they have chosen to share with the community. Students will help build, plant, grow, and maintain the garden. They will also harvest the vegetables and fruit and will share them with the neighboring community. Their families and parents will be invited to be a part of the project by helping garden, sharing recipes, and gardening tips!
