Using a calculator can help reinforce concepts taught in class, especially when we are talking about division, turning fractions into decimals, rounding, and working with percentages. Students with special needs can benefit even more from the use of a calculator by building their confidence and ability on basic math skills and letting them focus on the steps of an equation rather than stressing over the basic math skills they may need that extra help on. Calculators are a part of math, going forward, as scientific and graphing calculators are used in more advanced math classes.
