My students are between the ages of 6-8 and have been identified as gifted or high achieving. Often this translates to students who meet early milestones ahead of schedule, but then have difficulty understanding how to learn something when they don't automatically "just know it" as they are used to. I have them at the age when this happens for the first time for many of them. I have found that the use of games and cooperative materials gives them the problem solving and thinking skills they must develop to reach their full potential. So often at center rotations I hear them exclaim things like "I get it now!" or "Oh, that's how it works!", which is seldom heard when working on solitary pencil-paper tasks. The brightest minds of our future generation need to be constantly engaged, enriched and challenged. These materials will go a long way towards making that a reality in our classroom.
