Our 7th Grade Cooking and Life Skills class takes place in a makeshift classroom-not a kitchen. However, once I bring my own air fryers, griddle, double burner and cooking equipment we were able to transform the room to a portable kitchen. With a growing minority and low-income community, our students can learn how to make healthy, nutritious and tasty recipes by being resourceful. Adding permanent small electric appliances will allow more students to participate at the same time with our cooking experiences. Learning about nutrition, grocery shopping and practical experiences at this age will jumpstart their fundament life skills. I teach recipes that can easily be repeated at home with inexpensive minimal ingredients, minimal equipment and in less than an hour.
