We plan to use these funds to purchase remote control cars, which will be driven on student-designed outdoor RC tracks (dirt/ rock). Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of science and engineering practices as well as basic physics. Students will complete assignments based on the Oklahoma NGSS and ISTE standards. They will use what they have learned about gears, motion, speed, and Newton’s laws in real-world situations by timing races and calculating speeds/velocities. They will also use critical thinking, math, and arts in the design and construction of the tracks as they scale it down and use inclines that are appropriate for what they are trying to achieve. This project not only focuses on crosscutting concepts, but will incorporate social and emotional skills by team building, raising self-confidence, and teaching leadership as they will be modeling behavior and work ethic for the younger grades. Students will also have responsibilities and learn how to stage the cars, use stopwatch timers, calculate averages and put drivers into heats. The tracks will be outside of our school buildings, therefore students will be involved in the beautification of our school, which is a direct reflection of our community.
