Coming out of the last 2-3 years influenced heavily by the Pandemic, it is ever-so important to get back to the business of safe and fun hands-on learning for students at school. Many students spent large portions of the last two years at home participating in virtual learning. We know that this has greatly affected many of our kids in the areas of social, emotional, and academic growth. They have truly missed the rich learning experiences provided by in-person engagement with instructors and their peers. They are so excited to be back at school engaging in conversations with their peers about class curriculum, getting busy observing scientifically, and challenging their brains together in problem-solving! If this project is funded, my Forensics students will have the opportunity to work in a group setting where they can analyze Crime Scene Evidence, test their hypotheses, and make conclusions based on Evidence from the Labs. Students will learn about how the intrinsic properties of glass can be used to distinguish common types of glass. The analysis of radial and concentric patterns in the glass will lead students to make predictions about how each glass fracture was created- the direction of the force that impacted the glass, and what possibly could have caused each type of fracture. Students will practice their inference skills as they work to reconstruct a crime through theorizing the sequence of events resulting in multiple trauma patterns on glass. This activity Will Definitely Be all that it is Cracked up to be!
