Since covid-19 began our students have been learning in different learning environments. They need to be comfortable in their working environment to learn and perform their best. Students learn best when they are comfortable. First-grade students are very active and they all learn differently. Research shows flex seating gives students choices so they take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Therefore, students are more engaged and get more work completed than would be just sitting at their desks. Since covid-19 our students have been struggling academically and reading scores have dropped. Therefore, it has become vitally important in my special needs classroom to have a print-rich environment to encourage students to read. I strive to create a print-rich environment in my classroom. However, my classroom library needs some work to make it more appealing to my students. I want it to become a place where my students enjoy sitting and reading books. Special students need to fall in love with books and want to spend time reading them. This new shelf will make it easier for students to browse through the different books and choose a book easily.
