Ninety percent of our students are in poverty and have severe exposure to TRAUMA! Sexual abuse, death of a parent or guardian from gun violence, physical and mental abuse, house damage from hurricanes anxiety from COVID, suicide and more. We can now offer an in-house trauma specialist for our students. Most of our families do not provide the means to get their child to a therapist after school, so we want to do all we can to support our students' social and emotional growth in the school setting. Our grant will fund the services, but not the furniture items to make the environment comfortable. It is hard enough for them to talk about these issues. So we want this space not to look like a classroom, but an environment where they can relax and focus on themselves and allow us to truly help them. Thank you so much for helping and being a part of giving them a chance at a mentally healthy life.
