Students will learn how to hydroponically produce fruits and vegetables. This is a fun and effective alternative to soil gardening. Recently, we have experienced shortages of supplies and food due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My students will understand they can produce their own food and never have to worry about shortages. My students will get to experience the entire growing process from seed to sprout and flowering to ripening. They will learn about the changing nutritional needs of the developing plant and we will compare that to them and their nutritional needs as they develop. There are many lessons this project could encompass. Eventually, if they happen to live in an urban area where they do not the opportunity to soil garden, they will know how to produce hydroponically. This experience will be another tool in their belt.
