Any chance we have to reinforce learning objectives across the curriculum, we take it! We are always looking for ways to tie together concepts. These cross-curricular tie-ins are one of the best ways we create lifelong learners. In addition, by using picture books in the math classroom, math teachers are able to create a common ground for our students. Picture books create a common vision and vocabulary for all learners in the classroom. The picture books I requested will be used in four different math classrooms. These books were specifically chosen because they can be used to introduce and reinforce math objectives such as algebraic thinking, data and measurement, order of operations, numbers in base ten, dividing with multi-digit numbers, and so much more. In addition to teaching math skills, these picture books can also be read in language arts classes. By using these books in both content areas, students will more clearly understand how math and reading truly go hand in hand.
