A variety of quality books at students’ ZPD level allows students to expand their vocabulary, make real-world connections, and become stronger readers. These items will provide my class with the necessary differentiation as they learn through the world of reading. Keeping students engaged and excited while reading is vital for academic growth. A variety of book genres, levels, and subjects will allow my students to find a book they can truly invest themselves in and learn through. My students, as all students do, deserve the resources available to help them enjoy and learn while at school. As expected many struggle with reading stamina and some are several grade levels below on their reading abilities. Where pre-pandemic some students may only have been behind by half a grade level, I am now seeing many students behind by a full grade level or more. Providing them with a variety of books with different reading levels will allow them to enjoy reading, enjoy improving their reading skills, and help them feel accomplished and capable readers.
