Many of my students with learning and reading disabilities struggle to write. I have always hoped to have a classroom where there are enough head sets with microphones to allow the students the ability to use the talk to text feature. I have noticed that as they use this tool their amazing ideas come to life! Their writing is not limited by the laborious task of spelling and letter formation. As a class, we work on editing skills. The world will open up for my students creatively as they use these headphones to focus more on the content and less on the mechanics. Another thing I am doing in my class is that I have created a project called Your Time to Shine. Every week I reach out to the families of two of my students and ask them to answer questions regarding specific things about what makes their children who they are. Then, with this information, we build a bulletin board about that child and share their strengths and gifts with the class. Some of the things in my cart will be used for this. This has helped with the isolation so many have experienced during the pandemic. The other items in my cart such as the Dominos game are to employ fun and tactile learning into math.
