My students are mostly Hispanic English Learners. They lack reading skills so necessary for success in all academic classes. In our Title I middle school, 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come from poor and troubled homes and, for that reason, in-school silent reading time is the only chance when they can read.
