My project is to help students learn and improve reading skills along with providing social skills training. In our groups we work on reading skills that include phonemic awareness, phonics and applying decoding skills to reading. We could really enhance their learning with targeted reading material and manipulatives (e.g. magnetic letters, ten frames) to build their phonics and word building skills. The books will help build their overall reading. The ten frames not only help with reading, but can also be used in math instruction. In our groups, we also teach SEL. The books and games are tools to be used to meet each student’s needs and help with their emotional well-being. The wands with magnet chips will be used to play learning games, learn to hear the sounds in words and identify numbers with easy clean up. These tools will greatly enhance our ability to help my students over come the additional challenges that they face.
