Students will get to experience the timeless art process of printmaking through linoleum block printing. While my sixth graders learn about the printing press and how that revolutionized the informational world, they will get to experience how time-consuming older forms of printing making were. We will make letter blocks that they can use one at a time to print lettering. The students will also get to make their own image and print it. Block printmaking bridges the ancient world to the present. Printmaking has made sharing information more accessible across ages and languages. We would not have been able to share the information about COVID-19 and other diseases as quickly as we can today without the advances in technology that allowed us to do so. Printmaking was an early advancement for the sharing of information.
