Speech and language skills are often best learned with a variety of modalities such as books, cooperative games, and visual and tactile supports. Reading books helps build communication skills like auditory comprehension, expressive vocabulary, and memory, and it also builds world knowledge. The new books on my wishlist are specifically chosen to target expressive and receptive language skills. Games are a fun an easy way to incorporate social language practice, such as taking turns, perspective taking, problem solving, and conversation skills, into learning tasks. The games on my wishlist can be easily incorporated into everyday speech and language therapy sessions, and can be used to practice a wide variety of skills. Large mouth models are a great visual and tactile cue for teaching speech sound production. Students can watch demonstrations of speech sound productions, as well as demonstrate their knowledge of speech sound production using the mouth model. Funds from Teachers Pay Teachers can help me purchase activities that target the students' individual goals and needs. I am privileged to serve two schools within my community. I am requesting duplicate items on my wishlist so the students at both of my schools can benefit from the materials. My students also respond well to incentives such as prizes to stay motivated to work hard on speech tasks and follow the class rules and expectations. They enjoy being rewarded for their hard work by picking out a small prize to take home.
