Many of my students rely on pictures schedules and graphic organizers to move throughout their school day. I have found that picture schedules and visual task analysis cards foster independence and decrease undesired behaviors. The use of picture schedules helps my students to gain independence, develop routines, and support reading skills. When my students know what is happening in their day, they have been more willing to engage in academics. Visual task analysis posted in the classroom serves to ease anxiety and become a guide for developing social skills. My non-reading students enjoy interpreting the visual picture schedule and task analysis cards to show their developing skills.
