4th grade is the first opportunity for students to be departmentalized. The students will have 2 or 3 different teachers for the different subject areas. I am the math teacher for all 4th grade students. With all the material we are responsible for covering in 4th grade, the day is very fast paced. Having the folders will allow me to color code each subject area so students will know what folder to pull out for each subject. For some reason, students have a very hard time remembering a pencil and when they do it is almost never sharpened. Having the extra pencils will allow me the opportunity to let students swap a broken pencil for a sharpened pencil, and not have to spend classtime sharpening pencils. Having the colored folders with paper so the students are ready to go to work will not only increase instruction time but it will also allow the students to be more successful in their academics because they will be more organized.
