These materials will make a major impact on my students understanding of the Revolutionary War, through the eyes of enslaved people who are of the same age as my students. These books (series of 3) will enable my students to understand slavery within the colonies at the beginning of the Revolutionary War as well as understanding the conditions and motivation of the Continental Army during the harsh winter at Valley Forge (through the eyes of a slave and peer age as my students), and finally the realization of how working with black troops in the Revolutionary War the main protagonists are able to see and experience the significance of fighting for one's freedom.
