We are IMAGINE! We are a public charter school serving a population which is over 90% poverty and over 90% minority. Many of our students function below grade level and each year our goal is to show over one year's educational growth so that they can catch up. As of January 2011, my class has already shown one year's growth so we are on track for at least 1.5 year's growth. Our classroom family faces many barriers to learning including learning disabilities, attention disabilities, parent illness, housing issues, and so on. The good news is that families have chosen our school and we take learning very seriously. We don't fail students, we fail poor teaching methodology! If something doesn't work, we throw it out and try something new. In my classroom , that means hands on and messy! With cooking, you read the recipe and figure out the measurements or you do not enjoy the yummy stuff! Talk about motivated learners!
