The cost of lumber and materials to build or rent backdrops and install a rigging system that would allow for multiple backdrops to be painted and hung in our theatre could cost up to 50,000 dollars. Through the use of a projector, we can create digital backdrops and use projectors to display them for our productions at a fraction of the cost and time. As a small theatre program in a small southern town, funding and resources are limited. This projector would offer long-term use and solutions for not just this year, but many years and productions to come. This projector could be utilized by not only the Theatre department, but other fine arts departments for concerts and productions produced at our school. With this projector, we could implement theatre outreach programs in our community and offer public performances at little to no cost to the community. Admission for these fine art events could be reduced due to dramatic reduction in cost of building materials needed to produce each show/performance.
