Our school recently built a School-Based Health Center which provides affordable, conveniently located, and easy-to-access health care services for students and their families, as well school staff members, thus bridging the gap for families who do not consistently have access to care. Our school is in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle and is the assigned elementary school for many downtown homeless shelters and many low-income families. There is a disproportionately high population of homeless and low-income students that are faced with many hardships, including a lack of access to healthcare and resources which we hope to address through this clinic and the “Community Hub”. While the build out of our center is complete, we currently have been facing furniture procurement issues that have delayed us from fully opening our doors. Our priority is to the students and families that need this resource, especially during the COVID pandemic. We are looking for furniture donations to help us build our clinic’s lobby and conference room areas. These spaces will host groups, provide parent support, host support classes for teachers, and offer a safe space for students to seek resources.
