Art is more than just a painting. In my definition of art, it is everything, from the clothes you wear to the advertisements on TV to the building you are sitting in right now. I would like to build a classroom that is inclusive and explores many different media including fashion/textile design, architecture and traditional visual art. I believe that LEGO bricks, a small set of classroom sewing kits and a portable sink, would allow me to expose the students to more hands-on opportunities for artmaking. Many of my students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds who do not automatically see the value in art education, but I would like to change this by connecting art back to the real world and giving them real life skills while simultaneously teaching state standards of visual art.
