My students need a 21st century library that reflects who they are. The characters in the books they read should reflect the way they look. The heroes of these stories need to be strong and diverse. My students are half female and over half are a broad mix of black and brown from across the globe. The classroom library we have is mostly older titles and doesn't feature people from diverse backgrounds. In order for students to reach their full potential they need to see people who look like themselves in all kinds of roles.
