The first project will be a genre study of music. The plan is to use class time to choose what to investigate and how to investigate music that students may not have heard before - to expand musical horizons. BrainPOP offers lessons on many specific genres and opens the way to find sub-genres. In Montessori parlance adolescents are at the 'sensitive period' for developing an aesthetic understanding. Exposing them to a great variety of music (and art and literature) challenges them to find out what they like and why they like it.
