As a result of the pandemic and virtual learning in the 2020-2021 school year, my students, more than ever, have a greater need for foundational reading skills. Reading research shows that systematic and explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics is essential for beginning and struggling readers. My students need access to multiple, quality texts that will allow them to apply their phonics skills. The use of decodable books such as S.P.I.R.E. will support my instruction and help solidify the foundational reading skills my students need to become top-notch readers!
