Having a variety of fiction, nonfiction, realistic, and fantasy graphic novels will give my students the opportunity to analyze them for more than just content and form. Numerous studies have shown how student choice is a great motivator for success. Students will pick up invaluable skills used on the state assessment (of course), but the real goal will be to help them create their own graphic novel. A wide selection of titles; classics like "Frankenstein" or "The Oddyssey" to more contemporary "Drama" and "Smile"; will show students that literature can come in many styles. This will help them determine their own path towards authorship.
