Since returning to the building I am trying to engage my students as much as possible. In the classroom, we spend a lot of time working with pencil and paper to learn new skills. Once the skills are learned students can become hands-on and model what they have learned! Learning is so much more than facts and content. Creating a classroom where kids want to be, does not happen overnight. It is important to me that my students enjoy coming to class and know that our classroom is a place I want them to be and the place they are represented. With the pipe cleaners and clay, students will be able to model volume by cross-sections to visualize what our formulas are calculating. The students will use the pipe-cleaners to create the 3-d shapes to put within the clay that will model the function the students find the area of using integrals. The standing desk and Apple TV will allow me to project my school-issued iPad while covering new materials in an engaging and visual way. Some of the more difficult math topics can be hard to visualize why we use the formulas that are taught. With the Apple TV students can visually see the outcomes and derivation of the formulas from math apps that are mirrored to the projector.
