I am requesting iPads for the speech therapists at my school. These iPads will be used to download various kinds of augmentative and alternative communication apps, most of which are only available on iPads and Apple products. There are many different kinds of communication apps because students all have different communication needs. Speech therapists can then trial these communication programs with students and submit formal evaluations to request that the school district provide students with permanent iPads loaded with recommended communication apps. These iPads will also allow us to learn how to use new and unfamiliar communication apps prior to working with students. Unfortunately, speech therapy schools do not teach graduate students how to use these communication programs. Speech therapists often have to learn how to use communication apps while doing therapy with students who previously received iPads. It's very important that therapists have access to learning these programs because we can't teach students and their parents how to use something that is unfamiliar to us. Additionally, being knowledgeable of these programs can enable speech therapists to make appropriate communication app recommendations on student evaluations. Your support is greatly appreciated!
