All these books are great examples of big ideas for in depth discussion and for writing examples. My students will hear good writing from great authors. My students already get excited when they hear great writing techniques and they will love to try them out. We will use the big ideas in this literature to have discussions about topics and issues that matter. This way they make connections to other content areas. These books will enable my students to learn about other cultures, other times, and therefore broaden their acceptance and background knowledge of others. Having multiple copies of many of these books will give them access. I have seen in the past that students will go home and ask their parents to buy them the books I read. Then they are reading above their grade level, because of the high interest.
