My students live in the southern part of the city. There is a high percentage of low income student population in the entire school. The population is mostly black and Hispanic/latino. These students face many challenges on a daily basis and school is, for most of them, their only constant. We do not want these students to get caught up in the gangs or other violent activities as they grow up. For this reason I want them to empower themselves through their education in my classroom.
