Our population of students interested in STEM and futures in computer science are our students going home after school and playing alone and on their own. We want to engage ALL of our students in activities at school that they are interested in including eSports. We are looking to purchase five Nintendo Switches, five Nintendo Switch Docks, 20 Nintendo Switch Wireless Pro Controllers, and five 10ft HDMI cables. These materials will allow 20 of our students to practice and compete at one time in the building after school. Teachers will have another avenue to connect with kids by talking about their eSports club and watching their competitions. Engaging our students in eSports will not only increase engagement in school, but also provide students with an avenue to practice and grow their skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, adaptability, perseverance, integrity, empathy, and self-regulation. All skills we know future employers are looking for in their employees. Starting a program like this in our school will also help to grow our students' interest in STEM and computer science, and in turn grow our computer science program throughout our middle school and into our high school.
