Social-Emotional Learning is imperative to our student's success. Books, social stories, and multi-media help our students understand and apply real-world situations in a pro-social manner. Teaching about emotions indirectly through the use of a book helps students to see that feelings are universal and not just felt in isolation. For example, pairing the book "The Invisible Boy" by Trudy Ludwig with a sad "Feeling Buddy" helped facilitate a conversation with my students surrounding situations they experience and how they could positively navigate these events. Our goal is to raise funds to create a social-emotional learning bookshelf. Staff within our program intend to utilize these resources to collaborate and co-teach social-emotional learning topics. In our space, we talk about each child's uniqueness or "superpower" and how they can use these talents for the greater good. We hope to use these books to help develop skills and expand our student's superpowers.
