I am working to support my students in stimulating the brain, improving their sensory processing systems (taste, touch, smell, etc.), as well as fine/gross motor skills (cutting, writing, pulling apart, etc.), by using TheraPutty, pencil grips, and calming children down when they are irritated using a variety of Stress Relief Fidget Hand Toys and Dynamic Movement Sensory Sox. Dynamic Movement Sensory Sox are like giant hugs for children. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they create. Sensory play encourages students to create, investigate, explore and use their imagination. Engaging students in sensory play creates a unique way of teaching them daily skills they can use later in life. Children with Autism and other Intellectual Disabilities have varying needs and display a range of different behaviors, so activities should always be targeted according to their individual support strategies.
