COVID had undoubtedly put a strain on the physical and emotional well being of my students. Due to COVID it has been difficult for many students to verbally express their feelings. However they have been able to channel their feelings through drawings and various digital mediums. It has given them a platform to fully express themselves without the fear of being scrutinized. In helping fund this project, I can continue to supply my students with engaging graphic design exercises, additional canvas boards, media paper, as well as introducing how to mix acrylic paints on palettes and prime their artwork surfaces using gesso, so they can continue to channel their emotions is a safe and effective manner in addition to me implementing standards VA:Cr1-VA:Cr3 for grades 6-8. These supplies all The visual arts have become a crux for social emotional learning for my students. My students have been limited to using acrylic paint to express their creativity. I want to give them as many mediums and opportunities to show what they are capable of achieving using the arts. Introducing my students to sculpture using clay and the appropriate clay tools (wire cutter, spray bottle, etc) that are required to create engaging sculptures can help increase my students' self-esteem, because the act of creating something tangible and functional is empowering. In my classroom I fully reiterate that art is not about being perfect, it’s about being you. In setting this precedence, I am helping shape their responses towards their own work and the work of their peers; which also falls in line with VA:Re7-VA:Re8, grades 6-8. Visual arts is how humans bring beauty into the world. Help my students continue to supply the world with beauty.
