My students need books that they can see themselves in. Books that contain diversity. I want to encourage my students to read more so that they can improve their reading. Many of my students are below grade level in reading. I would love for them to read books that will inspire further reading. That way, their reading fluency, and comprehension will improve. Once their reading improves, their self-esteem will improve, which they will see improvement in other subjects. In a recent study, the authors concluded that students who self-selected literature for pleasure performed better in English, Mathematics, Science, and History.
