My 18 students live in Naugatuck CT, and attend all day Kindergarten. In September, many students came to school not knowing basic Literacy, Numeracy, or Social skills. They start the year self conscious and nervous, at times struggle with the academic or social expectations of the classroom. However, students will make huge leaps and bounds as the year progresses. Not only academically, but socially and emotionally, as well. As the year continues, students will find their love reading and writing. They will learn how to be a friend, how to share, and how to self regulate. Our classroom functioning is based upon Responsive Classroom and positive choices. Students participate in whole and small group Literacy and Numeracy, Writer's Workshop, Literacy Stations, and classroom meetings, which helps build communication and executive functioning skills.
