Our classroom library needs new, up-to-date books about socio-emotional development. After the COVID-19 pandemic, it became more important than ever to share stories about feelings, caring for others, and empathy. I want to improve the number of books we have in this area. Building our classroom library with these books will encourage personal growth as well as a love of literature amongst students. These new books will help develop NVACS standard SS.1.10 - Share stories that illustrate honesty, courage, friendship, respect, and responsibility; have students explain how the stories show these qualities. By first reading literature that exemplifies these traits, students will be able to explain their own similar personal stories. Learning to open up about these topics is important for my students who are just returning to the classroom setting after a long time learning from home.
