I’m a new gifted specialist who came to the classroom with zero funds and very minimal supplies, so I am seeking funds to get "Back to the Basics!" For our concept-based unit, "Survivor: Animal Behavior in the Arctic Tundra," we will be exploring the big ideas surrounding behavior, adaptation and survival. I need to be able to print out for the students as well as laminate our key curriculum anchor charts and their projects. We need more crayons and supplies when they come to my room. I have to hang anchor charts with tape because we don’t have a magnetic white board. Someone donated a projector, but I don’t have an interactive white board so depend on large post it paper for our lessons. We will be studying the effect of climate change on the Arctic tundra and the students will create a script and play and design costumes as their final product. They are also designing habitats for their arctic animals in a local zoo. We are doing research as well as using our creative thinking skills as we explore how behavior is driven by the need for survival in one of the harshest environments on the earth. We need these resources to implement the concept-based unit which coincides with the gifted standards and outcomes.
