"When are we going to use this?" "I don't remember any of this from last year." These are complaints I hear often from my students. They are exhausted. They are overwhelmed. Distance learning and Covid-19 made an especially noticeable impact in the department of mathematics. Students feel frustrated with the gaps that they have and struggle with finding relevance and connection with the material we are learning. Help me breathe life back into math for my students with this project. We will use the iPad and Apple Pencil to bridge gaps in their learning that resulted from the pandemic. We will use the iPad to create significance to the content. We will do a project where the students bring in some of their favorite products. Students will use the measuring capabilities to obtain specific dimensional measurements of these objects. They will use these measurements to calculate area and volume. Then they will use the iPad and Apple Pencil to create digital 3-d designs of products they conceive. We will also use the iPad and Apple Pencil to model other mathematical concepts students are learning in class. Students will be able to easily participate in interactive mathematical learning opportunities via the iPad. The Nevada Academic Content Standards that this project will fulfill is 7.G.B which states that students will, "Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume."
