Students come to the SEL room for many different reasons. Many students have difficulties with behavior in class. My goal as an SEL teacher is to provide my students with the skills they need to control their behaviors in class and at home so that they can reach their full potential. One of my students' favorite SEL strategies is the Cooling Volcano. This strategy involves comparing yourself to a volcano. Students know that when they start to feel "the smoke" that "the lava" is not far behind. This is a signal to my students that its time to take a break to cool the lava. I would like to create a spot in my classroom where students know they have a safe space to have a time out or brake. I would like to use bean bags for this space. Students will also be able to read or draw while cooling off.
