Having access to a washer and dryer would give our students and families an opportunity to be able to do something many people take for granted. Our families would have access to these machines as well. Our absenteeism rate is heavily influenced by students not coming to school because they don't have anything clean to wear. Now more than ever, wearing bacteria-free clothing is especially important in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic. Addressing our students' basic needs can affect our students' ability to succeed. Having clean clothes can remove some of the barriers that prevent children, particularly poor children, from fully participating in the classroom. Most directly, as an educator, I have found that providing life essentials encourages attendance, one of the most surefire ways to promote learning and student engagement.
