Our school’s Science SBAC data for 4th grade indicates a decline in science proficiency from 2018/2019 (30.1%) to 2020/2021 (24.2%). Our school has a limited amount of informational text related to scientific concepts. I have noticed my students need more access to text that is engaging and rich in science vocabulary to help build the reading and analytical skills needed to increase our school’s science proficiency by 5th grade. I believe these SuperScience subscriptions and lap boards will assist me with integrating reading and science to increase the overall scientific understanding and participation of my students. I especially like this resource because there are engaging reading topics, colorful illustrations and text features, and there are ways to differentiate the materials for the various needs of my students, and they can show and share their work through the use of the dry erase lap boards. This engaging subject matter will help to bridge the gap caused by the COVID pandemic for 4.LS Life Science, 4.ES Earth Science, 4.PS Physical Science and 4.ED Engineering Design.
