This award-winning, inspirational book will challenge young readers to think about others besides themselves and better understand the rewards of unselfish thinking and being courageous. Students need to develop the endurance necessary to read and succeed in high school and college. Building reading endurance early is key. In the current society of shorter and shorter attention spans, reading sometimes is seen as 'old-fashioned' and 'outdated'. We need young scholars to value reading and see that it is worth their time and energy to explore the world of literature, a world of words that reflects the world they live in.
