The college pennants will hang all around our room to inspire students to learn about their favorite colleges. The students, who are in fifth grade, will also use their favorite colleges to study the fifty states. The students will learn about the states where their favorite colleges are and will be able to link the locations (on a map), mascots, and sports teams with their favorite colleges. Donations will turn our classroom into an oasis of college possibilities. College will go from being something students rarely hear about at home to common knowledge they start thinking about from fifth grade on. Our students' lives will become enriched by the real possibility of them picking a college they will attend one day while in the fifth grade! Imagine looking forward to college from the time you were in elementary school! Studies have shown that fluorescent lights can cause headaches, migranes, stress, and anxiety for students and teachers. Our classroom (and school) is full of these types of lights. I am requesting these light covers to help with this harsh lighting in our classroom. There are several days that my students request for me to teach with the lights off to rid the room of the fluorescent light. These covers will allow us to focus on our work without straining our eyes in the dark, or in the harsh lighting. It will help create a warm, inviting atmosphere and keep students focused on their work!
