My students are comprised of first, third, seventh and tenth generation immigrants living in an industrialized section of South Los Angeles. They face increasing competition to get into college, yet they bear the bulk of our collective labor. I want them all to have as much access to education as the rest of us can muster. The biggest gap for them seems to lie in the realm of technology. They have so little experience with it compared to the others against whom they will be competing for the few spots in local (and national) colleges. Our system of government relies on a level playing field. I want to level that field. I am starting with the first thing that we need.
