The books and other reading resources in my project will help my students in Kindergarten through Second Grade become better readers. The Kindergarten students are learning letter names, letter sounds, and sight words. The first grade students are reviewing letter names, letter sounds, and they are learning sight words. Second grade students are working on phonemic awareness and sight words. All grade levels are also working on comprehension skills by reading stories and nonfiction texts. By donating to my class project you will help my students improve their reading skills. My students are in reading intervention and they are getting extra support in reading instruction. The Covid pandemic and over a year of distance learning has affected my students' reading skills including their fluency and reading comprehension skills. Due to my students not having face to face instruction for over a year, it was difficult for them to learn and acquire reading skills and it has greatly affected their progress in reading. The reading materials that I am requesting for my project are aligned to the Nevada Academic Content Standards in English Language Arts: Foundational Skills (Print Concept, Phonological Awareness, Phonics and Word Recognition, and Fluency) and Reading Standards for Informational Text and Literature Text (Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure, Integration of Knowledge and Ideas, and Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity). By using the materials I am requesting for my project, I will be able to teach reading lessons that address the Nevada Academic Content Standards and my students will have access to a variety of texts that will foster their reading skills.
