My high school staff has introduced a new curriculum that provides adaptations to literature found in high school settings. The adaptations to the written word are symbols. We need to provide objects that reflect "real-life people and objects" as much as possible to enhance comprehension. The people represented in the objects I have selected are extremely close replicas of people represented in the novels we have selected. This will provide opportunities for students with special needs to gain a higher level of comprehension which will allow them to engage in discussions/conversations with their same age peers. Not only will literacy comprehension increase, our students self-esteem and confidence will sky-rocket.
